The Brief

Appeal to a younger generation, and work equally well on any wrist. I chose a classic three-hand movement — simple and versatile — so proportion, case detailing, and finish carry the personality instead of a busy dial. Regular reviews with Movado's designers and executives shaped each round of refinement.

Moodboard & Sketching

A moodboard of consumer electronics, chronographs, and street style set the younger, unisex tone. From there I sketched six case, lug, and crown configurations.

Phase 3

Concept Renders

Three directions went to review — same case architecture, different dial language and color story.

Concept 1 — white case, purple bezel, radar-ring dial

Concept 01

White case, violet gradient bezel — the radar-ring dial at its most graphic.

Concept 2 — matte black case, red gradient bezel, monogram-texture dial

Concept 02

Matte black case, red-to-pink bezel, and a repeating HUGO-monogram dial texture.

Concept 3 — navy case with rose-gold bezel and dual-ring dial

Concept 03

Navy case, rose-gold bezel, and a quieter dual-ring dial — the most understated.

Final Design

The chosen design: a black case with a color-blocked red bezel, radar-ring dial, and a HUGO-patterned strap underside.

Four Colorways

Colorway Boards

Drawn in Adobe Illustrator on top of the finished design — the same watch, four directions for color. Each board carries the front and side at 100% and 200% alongside the case and strap specs, so a color could be judged at the size it would actually be worn.
